Haworth - Wrong Coverage Dates

Problem:
Our access to Haworth may be working, but do you think we should do anything about the coverage dates? Our coverage dates for our Haworth titles are inaccurate. I think Denise mentioned this in an earlier blog posting too. I remember being told that when Haworth switches over to Taylor & Francis around the end of the year that T&F will apply their "rules" to coverage dates (meaning we should get 1997 - ). Should we just leave the screwy dates as is and hope they will be more accurate when they become T&F? Or do you think we should put in some kind of advisory until then? Here are a couple of examples of screwy coverage dates for Haworth titles:

J. of East West Business
Skyline says 1995 -
Our actual coverage is from 2001 -

J. of Marketing for Higher Education
Skyline says 1988 - 2007
Our actual coverage is 2008 only

Intermittent fulltext access to the ASME journals.

Assigned to: DP, EJ
Priority: medium
Status: in progress

Troubleshooting notes:
8/14/08 According to LH at CU, "They will turn our access back on, but it has to go through AIP/Scitation, so could take a couple of days.I've already received a notification that the proceedings have been re-activated. Evidently this was a system driven turn off -- we didn't pay by a certain date, so the system turned us off. " I'll put a note to check on Monday 8/18/08 dp
8/11/08 The CU-system libraries (CLERT) are working on a consortial deal for these journals that has become a longer process than anticipated. In the meantime, our existing access from our previous subscription is flaky/intermittent varying from library to library and journal to journal. EJ put a "resource advisory" in the ERM for this group of journals that show up in each bib record, ie. http://skyline.cudenver.edu/record=b2051978. LH at Boulder is working with ASME on this. EJ

Problem: Title looks like it is tracked twice in Ser Sol, which is creating two rows in the SSJ report. That produces the double link in Skyline…http://skyline.cudenver.edu/record=b2058175

7/31/08 very odd. Two identical entries in SerSol--if I untrack one, both disappear. So I had to leave them both. However, I customized the date to 10/07/96- in hopes that that would eliminate the default double link (10/07/1996 - , 10/07/1996 -) I added the label "check Aug load" so we can see if that took care of it. Prospector's 'Request Article' button's

Problem: We are getting periodic or occasional HTTP 403 (Forbidden) errors when we search for a Journal on Prospector, and use the Prospector 'Request Article' Button.

Assigned to: RB, GB
Priority: Medium
Status: in progress
Suggested workaround: As the brackets primarily appear in the record that shows what holdings are at Prospector libraries, it is possible to use the browser button to go "back" to the previous page that shows the journal and to then use the 'Request Article' button.

Troubleshooting notes:
7/23/8 Still happening. Renewed contact with Alliance.
7/11/8 More tests seem to show this is related to the inclusion of square brackets [] from the journal title in the open url url. Removal of the brackets lets the process proceed. Informed the Alliance and they are working on it.
7/10/8 Repeated tests find this happening on many more machines than the ref desk pcs and the public browser. RB consulted with the Alliance as this is a problem with GoldRush and Prospector.
7/9/8 Ref desks reports this in the evening.

1. emailed user a work-around--on the EJS page click on "Available on Publisher's Site: 2002 - 2008". EJ
2. The additional issue here is that we get this through our University of Chicago journal package, but there is no Chicago link on the bib record. The Chicago journals were tracked in SerSol on 3/5/08, and still indicate they are tracked in EJS. Other Chicago titles also with no bib record links are: Elementary school journal http://skyline.cudenver.edu/record=b2047597 Classical philology http://skyline.cudenver.edu/record=b2045226 EJ

DP--could this be something with the coverage load/deletion file?

Families in society

Problem: WAT reported these problems with this journal "Families in Society (http://skyline.cudenver.edu/record=b2048235):
1. inability to get to the fulltext via Factiva link on the bib record & from the GR Linker (it's the problem with the "preview page").
2. In Google Scholar clicking on the article title for this article "Siblings and Out-of-Home Placement: Best Practices" , gives an error message.
http://scholar.google.com/scholar?q=Siblings+and+Out%2dof%2dHome+Placement%3a+Best+Practices&sourceid=navclient&hl=en
3. Link to Auraria Resources on Google Scholar article http://skyline.cudenver.edu/record=b2048235" doesn't give the Ebsco EJS link on the GR Linker screen.

Assigned to: ej
Priority: medium
Status: resolved

Troubleshooting notes:
7/7/08 EJ
1. To search correctly, a user must click on factiva.com in the top grey/green bar on the preview page that the link takes you to (http://0-preview.factiva.com.skyline.cudenver.edu/pnp/default.aspx). On that screen is the working search interface. But article in question is not in Factiva, hence the caveat "selected full text" after Factiva on the bib record link & in the GR Linker.
2. This is a problem with the society webpage (Alliance for children and families)--they have changed the url for this article, and GS is still going to the old url. Nothing we can do about it.
3. EJ made a change in Gold Rush so the article link now shows up for Ebsco EJS. However, it is not possible to get direct article access for this journal, so the article level link goes to the journal level, and then you must find your issue and article, but that's the best that can be done.

Journal of Social Service Research

Problem: 6/26/08 EJ
IF-V reported an access problem with the Haworth journal Journal of Social Service Research. http://skyline.cudenver.edu/record=b2157085
A student was trying to get this article through EJS: 30(1): 1-17. Sept. 2003 "National and regional differences among runaway youth using federally-fuded crisis services by Sanna Thompson. When one chooses "Open in new window" on the EJS interface, very slowly you are taken to page where you are instructed to pay for the article ." The same thing happens to other articles that I chose at random, so it's not just this one article. There is no access either on the Haworth publisher website.
I "think" we have a subscription to this journal, but the III record doesn't show any payment. Another complicating factor is that Haworth was bought by T&F, and if you go to the T&F website (Informaworld), there is a note that this journal will be coming soon. I have a feeling that there may be similar issues with other Haworth publications also. One other Haworth journal that I can think of is Journal of Library Administration. http://www.informaworld.com/smpp/116159480-30367397/title~content=t792306968~db=all

Haworth Titles

Problem:
KH reported a few problems to me last week. I noticed a couple of them were Haworth titles. These are EJS titles too:

Social Work with Groups
J. of GLBT Family Studies

I'm concerned that more of our Haworth titles don't have access. I've contacted Ebsco & Mozhdeh about this. We have about 60 Haworth titles. They will be part of Taylor & Francis and moving to http://www.informaworld.com/ starting in 2009. I will be cancelling these with Ebsco & we should be getting them direct with T&F.

Problem: Double link for this title. http://skyline.cudenver.edu/record=b2064489 Tracked in Serials Solutions from two different Freely Accessible Business Journals databases. One starting in 2003 and the other in 1973.

Assigned to: EJ 5/16/08
Priority: medium priority
Status: resolved

Summary of solution: 6/2/08 EJ This is technically correct to have the two links as they lead to two different websites containing the archives (1975-1999) and the current site (2003-2007). There is a gap (With the founding of Enterprise & Society, the Business History Conference's quarterly scholarly journal, a variety of proposals were put forward for the handling of proceedings materials; for the first four years of Enterprise & Society (2000-2003), that journal contained the Presidential Address, Krooss Dissertation Session essays, and abstracts of the conference papers. Beginning with the 2003 meeting, all submitted abstracts and revised papers from the annual meeting will be found in BEH On-Line)

Troubleshooting notes:
EJ it is possible to customize the holdings in SerSol, resulting in just one link. If anyone feels strongly about it, I can reduce it to one link.

Problem: 4/17/2008 This journal is only available online from Factiva. Factiva database links go to a splash page that has a search box on it but the search won't work correctly and allow you to search farther back than one year. Urban Studies/Taylor & Francis journals

Problem:
1. Double links for all Taylor & Francis journals in the Skyline bib records. Here is the record for Urban Studies: http://skyline.cudenver.edu/record=b2059872

2. Urban Studies changed publishers from T&F to Sage beginning in 2008. Therefore, we lost our current access to this title that we had with our T&F package. EJ checked with Sage to see if it was going to be included in the Alliance Sage Premier package, and it is not.
Assigned to: EJ 2/26/08

Resolution: In progress
1. Double links: As of 6/27/08 No more double links. Access via T&F, record match db. DP
On 2/29/08, EJ untracked the T&F database on the Metapress platform, as T&F is no longer using that platform, but rather is using the Informa World platform (still tracked on Serials Solutions). This move should have eliminated all the double links on all the T&F journals, but it did not. DP, I suspect it is because there are still two .e records for T&F (they were probably both loaded in the initial load)?
This is the right .e record (InformaWorld): http://skyline.cudenver.edu:2082/record=e1000210
The wrong .e record (Metapress):
http://skyline.cudenver.edu:2082/record=e1000809
Metapress .e recod Deleted in June 08.

2. In regard to Urban Studies via EBSCO EJS:
As of 6/27/08 Access (1997-2007) does not match record (1964-2007). DP
DZ started the process with Ebsco of reinstating a single subscription to Urban Studies. DZ--are we reinstated yet? Yes, DZ has reinstated the journal subscription 4/7/08. We have two EJS links (one to the years we had access via T&F, and one to the new Sage subs)
