Problem: sw reported error on link to General Reference Center Gold for this bib record: http://skyline.cudenver.edu/record=b2483287~S0
Assigned to: ej, gb
Priority: high
Status: in progress
Troubleshooting notes:
3/11/10 This is a bigger problem involving the "Gold" links on many bib records. Checked other journals with fulltext in "Gold" and found some gave the error message and some not. There also is some difference in results on Internet Explorer 7 vs. 8. In my office (Explorer 8) , I'm able to get access all the time, but on the public computers (Explorer 7) I mostly do not get fulltext access, nor does SW at her work computer. At home (Explorer 8), SW does not get access. Other Gale links work. May have to do with BCR databases vs. Alliance databases?? GB, need your help on this one. ej

Problem:
A common error reported re 360 Link, is the case in which a user wants the fulltext of a book review, and the 360 Link fails to retrieve the item. GB reported one like this earlier in the week, rightly noted that "it is part of a larger piece of work [in this case Critical Notices] and does not have a separate entry for the starting page of this item which is indexed more finely in ASP than in Wiley or EJS."

3/11/10 To get a conclusive answer for this reoccuring problem, ej emailed SerSol (question/response follows:
Our question: A user was trying to access this article: http://tb4cz3en3e.search.serialssolutions.com/?genre=article&issn=00318205&title=Philosophy+%26+Phenomenological+Research&volume=69&issue=1&date=20040701&atitle=Uneasy+Virtue+(Book).&spage=238&pages=238-240&sid=EBSCO:Academic+Search+Premier&aulast=Crisp%2c+Roger
The Wiley-Blackwell article link brought up an error page, and the JSTOR link brought up the article. I'm thinking the W-B link didn't work because the beginning page of the article (p. 238) sent from ASP,was in the middle of the article in W-B (Critical Notices (p 227-246))and the JSTOR articles were broken down by each book review and beginning page number. Is that right? I'm also assuming there is nothing we can do about it since it's the way W-B has chosen to list its article content.
Answer from Sersol: Thanks for sending this in and including the URL to the results page. You are absolutely right - since Wiley doesn't have this article indexed separately (I couldn't even find it doing a search in the entire journal), it is inaccessible via this Open URL query. Unfortunately, you're also right about us not being able to do anything about it. I wish I had better news for you! ej

Problem: GK reported that when using 360 Link, an article from WCL was resolved to the wrong article. It was an article from a column in JAMA, and there were several other articles on the same page, and our link resolver retrieved the first article on the page, and GK's article was the 2nd.

Troubleshooting notes:
9/23/09 In general, link resolvers have difficulty with this problem (more than one article/page), as the openURL is set up to retrieve at the page level, and no finer, ie. not at the "article title" level. This is SerSol's response:
"...it is due to the fact that more than one article are indexed using the same volume/issue/start page. However, the target source only retrieves one article, and in this case, it chooses "Brain Trauma". Unfortunately, there is no way around this issue at present, as changing our linker to send the article title to match on, instead of volume/issue/start page metadata would likely result in too many errors." ej

Problem:

Troubleshooting notes:
9/22/09 emailed SerSol to get there take on this. It's very odd, because both IE and Firefox received the same URL to the article from 360 Link:

but IE was able to "resolve" the request, and Firefox wasn't. I got this error message with Firefox: http://0-ieeexplore.ieee.org.skyline.cudenver.edu/Xplore/errorpage.jsp?url=http%3A%2F%2Fieeexplore.ieee.org%2Flpdocs%2Fepic03%2Fwrapper.htm%3Farnumber%3D388209%3Ftag%3D1

360 Link and article-level links in WorldCat Local
Problem: When retrieving articles in WCL via ArticleFirst and British Library Serials, some articles do not have direct article-level access especially for content in the Gale and Ebsco databases. They should be resolved on the article-level as they are resolved in other databases on the article-level.

Status: in progress
Troubleshooting notes:
8/14/09 SerSol responded back to ej's inquiry that either WCL or ArticleFirst was not passing on the volume, issue, and sometimes page info for the article in the openURL. Gale and Ebsco require this info in order to resolve the request on the article-level. GB sent an email to our rep at WCL to see if they could address the problem on their end. See email from gb on 9/14/09 titled ArticleFirst and the 360 link resolver. ej

Troubleshooting notes:
8/27/09 InformaWorld has only 2009 content on their platform for this journal, and consequently our holdings for this journal are 01/01/2009-present. That is why the 360 Link showed "Sorry, no holdings were found for this journal". Your article was a 2008 article, and so was outside of our holdings.
Here's a link to the InformaWorld (Taylor & Francis) page for this title: http://www.informaworld.com/openurl?genre=journal&issn=1364-5145
T&F just took over this journal in 2009, and prior to that there is no online access in any database which we have. Hopefully T&F will continue to add earlier content, but in the meantime, you'll probably want to keep our print issues. Here's the note in the print bib record b2038595x: EBSCO COPY CANCELLED WITH 2010, ORDERING DIRECT THROUGH TAYLOR AND FRANCIS/CLERT. (8/4/09, HB).
8/27/09There's no good reason why 360 Link should not provide an article-level link, as this title is tracked as an InformaWorld journal in Serials Solutions. These InformaWorld journals typically work quite well with the 360 Link. I will contact Serials Solutions about this one if I can't discover the problem easily. EJ

WAT reports:"We’re having a problem with the position of the 360 Link to Full text, next to the “full-text article link.” It’s positioned too close to the HTML Full Text or PDF Full Text or Linked Full Text and students don’t understand what it is they are linking on. So they pick the wrong link. "

Troubleshooting notes:
8/27/09 after soliciting input from reference staff, I removed the Auraria Library Catalog and ILL links, and changed the setting in the admin module so the 360 Link only appears if there is no fulltext within the EbscoHost databases. Now there will either be the Ebsco internal fulltext links or the "360 Link to full text" on each citation. ej
8/24/09 ej will check with Ebsco to see if the 360 Link can be positioned differently, or whether it can be set up so it displays only when there is no ft within Ebscohost. ej
