Zoological Studies

Problem: LTG reported that a student needed a Jan 2010 issue of Zoological Studies, that was cited in Web of Science. The Serials Solutions record says 1998-present is in “Freely Available” Journals. But when they went to the web site, the available journals only go up into 2008, so it appeared that she couldn't get the ft of the article she wanted. http://skyline.cudenver.edu/record=b2526637~S0

Troubleshooting notes:
3/3/10 SerSol has changed the URL to the correct one. ej
3/1/10 URL for this journal has changed to http://zoolstud.sinica.edu.tw/. The new URL includes the current ft content, including the articles from WofS labelled "published January 201o" (they are actually in the January 2009 issue). I contacted SerSol to request the change in the SerSol knowledgebase. In the meantime, I changed the URL on the Skyline record, so it is now correct. ej

E-Learning

Problem: EB reported: For http://skyline.cudenver.edu/record=b2484782~S0
Despite what our bib record link indicates, it appears that material from 2008 & newer is not available. Access to the full text file generates this message:
SORRY - you are not registered as being permitted
online access to the full text of this article

The request was for a 2009 item & I did some random checks on others.

Troubleshooting notes:
2/23/10 This journal changed its name from E-Learning to E-Learning and Digital Content http://www.wwwords.co.uk/elea/content/maincontents.asp
in 2010. It’s an open access journal with an 18 month embargo.

For now, I manually changed the link on the record for E-Learning to “View full text from AERA SIG Communication of Research: 2000 to 18 months ago”.
http://skyline.cudenver.edu/record=b2484782~S0

After the next March load, there will be a new record for E-Learning and Digital Content, with the correct embargo dates. I reported this all to Serials Solutions, and they will make the permanent appropriate changes in the record(s). ej

Troubleshooting notes:
11/3/09 determined that this title and others from University of Toronto Press were erroneously tracked in Serials Solutions, giving the appearance that we did have full text access, which we do not. We untracked, and Skyline record is now gone. ej

Google Scholar

Problem:
LT found an article in Google Scholar, and after clicking on the 360 Link, and clicking on "get article", she received an error message. She was using Firefox. Fulltext of the same article was retrieved via IE/Google Scholar/360 Link.

Troubleshooting notes:
9/22/09 emailed SerSol to get there take on this. It's very odd, because both IE and Firefox received the same URL to the article from 360 Link:

but IE was able to "resolve" the request, and Firefox wasn't. I got this error message with Firefox: http://0-ieeexplore.ieee.org.skyline.cudenver.edu/Xplore/errorpage.jsp?url=http%3A%2F%2Fieeexplore.ieee.org%2Flpdocs%2Fepic03%2Fwrapper.htm%3Farnumber%3D388209%3Ftag%3D1

Troubleshooting notes:
7/29/09 Our Project Muse "Standard Collection" does not include this title--we don't have ft access, so there is no link on the Skyline record. I wonder if you might have selected an article by chance that was an "open access" article. The articles I looked up had this ominous message: "Access Restricted. We're sorry, but you do not have access to this article. We recognize your workstation as being from: University of Colorado @ Denver. This institution has access to some journals in Project MUSE; please contact your library for more information. ej

Troubleshooting notes:
5/12/09 Publisher says: "The online ATG is now totally open. NOT ALL THE CONTENT is online, just brief parts of it." We will not add an online Skyline record for this, since it is only partially online. ej
4/6/09 this is a journal without ip address access. Access is via username & password. Requested assistance from Ebsco to help us get the username and password set up. When that is accomplished, will add it to Serials Solutions and request a password-protected page. EJ

Journal of Academic Librarianship

Problem: JB reported that the online record for Journal of Academic Librarianship is not displaying when the title is searched by "Periodical Title." It only displays when searched by "Title." http://skyline.cudenver.edu/record=b2051214

Assigned to: VG
Priority: High
Status: in progress

Troubleshooting notes:
1/5/09 The 229 field has a "the" and a 0 indicator.
130 0 Journal of academic librarianship (Online)
229 0 The Journal of academic librarianship
This is causing the periodical title to be searched with a "the."
VG will 1) will investigate Ser Sol's rules of 229 and identify best solution for this problem.
2) run a list in III to see if there are more instances of this problem.
3) if identify more problems, fix locally.
4) contact Ser Sol to make changes permanent.
5) Make sure problems fixed in next coverage load.

Cambridge Journals Online

Problem:
1. The Cambridge Journals Online database is connected to the wrong .e record in the ERM (Cambridge Collections Online), because the custom database name in SerSol is Cambridge Collections Online. http://skyline.cudenver.edu:2082/record=e1000009
2. A linking form needs to be sent for Cambridge Journals Online.

Assigned to: dp, ej

Troubleshooting notes:
8/5/08
1. We do need two .e records for our two Cambridge products: Cambridge Journals Online and Cambridge Collections Online. DP can you take a look?
2. There is an issue with 360 search in Serials Solutions. Need to tweak.
3. EJ will initiate a linking form for Cambridge Journals Online. This ft journal database is already activated in SerSol for the journals to which we have access. This is an Alliance deal. EJ

Business and economic history

Problem: Double link for this title. http://skyline.cudenver.edu/record=b2064489 Tracked in Serials Solutions from two different Freely Accessible Business Journals databases. One starting in 2003 and the other in 1973.

Assigned to: EJ 5/16/08
Priority: medium priority
Status: resolved

Summary of solution: 6/2/08 EJ This is technically correct to have the two links as they lead to two different websites containing the archives (1975-1999) and the current site (2003-2007). There is a gap (With the founding of Enterprise & Society, the Business History Conference's quarterly scholarly journal, a variety of proposals were put forward for the handling of proceedings materials; for the first four years of Enterprise & Society (2000-2003), that journal contained the Presidential Address, Krooss Dissertation Session essays, and abstracts of the conference papers. Beginning with the 2003 meeting, all submitted abstracts and revised papers from the annual meeting will be found in BEH On-Line)

Troubleshooting notes:
EJ it is possible to customize the holdings in SerSol, resulting in just one link. If anyone feels strongly about it, I can reduce it to one link.

Plant Cell & Plant physiology

Problem: No fulltext access to current issues of Plant Cell. No Skyline links to current access on Highwire Platform.

Assigned to: EJ 3/11/08

Resolution: resolved
Fulltext access has been restored to the current issues of Plant Cell.
Also, EJ activated these two titles in both Gold Rush and Serials Solutions (under Highwire Press), and also closed out the dates on our Ebsco EJS holdings in GR & SerSol because we cancelled our subscription via Ebsco and no longer get access to the current article on the EJS platform. These two titles became a CU-system purchase beginning with 2008, and CU-Boulder handles the joint invoice.

Problem: Double links to Cambridge Journals Online for Journal of Fluid Mechanics. One is for the archives and one is for current. We do not have access to the archives, so that link is erroneous.

Resolution: resolved
EJ customized the url so it goes only to the Cambridge website for the current issues of this title, not also to the archives. After the next load (sometime after April 15), the Skyline record should show just the link to the current. Check Skyline record after the next load EJ http://skyline.cudenver.edu/record=b2134550

International philosophical quarterly

Problem: 3/27/08 EM reported to DZ that no .b record for the title International philosophical quarterly (online) via the database POIESIS (http://skyline.cudenver.edu:2082/record=e1000077). DZ verified db was subscribed to in Serials Solutions. Contacted Serials Solutions who said "After researching your MARC backfiles, I think the database POIESIS: Philosophy Online Serials was added between the August and September 2007 MARC updates. We delivered a new record to you in September for the title: International Philosophical Quarterly (ssj0005683). Either this title was not loaded then, or it was accidentally deleted from your catalog."

Assigned to: JB 4/2/08

Resolution: Resolved 4/2/08
4/2/08 DP verified access to full-text of title.
4/2/08 JB created .b record.
4/2/08 DZ emailed JB - forwarding email from Serials Solutions and two copies of this record as it was sent to you then. One copy is in text format for review, the other copy is in marc format for loading. Need to create .b record for title online.

Journal of intellectual capital

Problem:
The Journal of intellectual capital which is available through Emerald (browse for the journals by title is the easiest way) has a very strange record in Skyline.
http://skyline.cudenver.edu/record=b2052165
It connects fine from Gold Rush which says this journal is also indexed in Acad Search Premier and ArticleFirst.
It looks to be a general problem with Emerald see http://skyline.cudenver.edu/record=b2052329 or http://skyline.cudenver.edu/record=b2052062
or see
<http://skyline.cudenver.edu/search/X?SEARCH=emerald&Submit=Search&b=in+++&m=s&l=&p=&c=&n=&Da=&Db=&SORT=D&sortdropdown=->

Also both of the about the resource links go to the same record, which is http://skyline.cudenver.edu/record=e1000771

Resolution: resolved
4/28/08 fixed with April coverage load. Resource ID/Database name in Serials Solutions for Emerald was too long. Caused ERM to crash. Shortened Resource ID and reloaded date.
4/3/08 DP. Made temporary fix. In the .b records of individual titles, switched 856 n to y. Allows link to dispay in bib record. Therefore, patron able to access database from bib record. But still not sure how to fix coverage and URL in .e record or the blue box. Called Serials Soultions and verified information was in coverage file. Hope next coverage load on 4/18/08 will fix problem.

Problem: In the .e record for "Single Journal" the link to the online resource is broken. (http://skyline.cudenver.edu:2082/record=e1000808). This journal is free (except for the current issue) and doesn't need a proxy wrapper. However, because the Single journal database is set to automatically add the proxy wrapper to each item within the database, the url for this journal also had the proxy automatically added. Because it is free, the url was correctly never entered into the III WAM table, and the proxy wrapper on this url sends it through the proxy server, and since there's nothing in there for this title, you get a error page.

Assigned to: DP 5/27/08

Resolution: In-progress.

Troubleshooting:
5/27/08 DP title not available from any database. All links are broken.
3/5/08 EJ Since title is available from two other databases, EJ untracked it from Single Journals in Serials Solution.

First Search

Problem: Reported 3/13/08 No searches remaining on FirstSearch authorization. Discovered that several FirstSearch "pay per search" databases are in the advanced federated search: 1) GeoBase, 2) Arts and Humanities Search, 3) Contemporary Women's Issues, 3) Disclosure Reports, and 4) ABI Inform. NH was able to remove GeoBase Arts and Humanities Search. However, NH was not able to locate Contemporary Women's Issues, Disclosure Reports, and ABI Inform to remove them from Serials Solutions. EJ to follow up with Serials Solutions to determine if "OCLC FirstSearch Custom 4" should be removed or not.

Assigned to: EJ 3/28/08

Resolution: Resolved. EJ spoke to a Serials Solutions rep, who advised that the OCLC FirstSearch Custom 4 database had no correlelation to 360 Search, and she said we could untrack it without causing any problem. As there are no journals attached to it, there is also no impact on the Marc record load or the e-journal portal. Therefore, EJ untracked this database in Serials Solutions 4/2/08. NH will contact Serials Solutions and have them remove the above databases from the 360 Search.

EJ 3/25/08 Alliance confirmed list package. Removed discrepancies.
