Problem accessing Lecture Notes in Mathematics
Notes in Mathematics (Springer) from off-campus via the Library Proxy server, but not when he goes through the UCD VPN.
Assigned to: EJ, GB
Priority: high
Status: in progress
Troubleshooting notes:
8/31/09 Ran this by GB and she said we should check with Springer to make sure our entire IP address ranges are in place. Emailed DM at Springer and he asked a colleague to check. ej

Status: resolved
Troubleshooting notes:
4/22/09 - The vendor indicates other users have had a problem with datasets being corrupted when going through the proxy so they require users to register from an IP-authenticated computer and but then allow access for that user for a limited time from other computers. We have changed the access directions to reflect this and making the access link unproxied. GB
4/21/09 - We have added an on-campus link to the ADI record. We may need to change this database to on-campus use only if we can't get the proxy server to cease interference. - GB

SciFinder Scholar
The proxy login works fine but once in .. the welcome screen says "An unexpected error has occurred" and stops dead. Sometimes however the license agreement page appears and then when accept is chosen it again stops dead.
Assigned to: GB, EJ, RB
Priority: on hold
Status: Database has been marked on campus use only. Until we get a new certificate.
Troubleshooting notes:
7/14/09 - Database has been marked on campus use.
3/13/09 - Contacts with CAS have said an 'unexpected error' usually means the CAS server has lost contact with the browser for no known reason. CAS said the proxy server must support https transactions. Also that if the proxy server is attempting to cache the transactions, that will disrupt the secure traffic (https transactions).
CAS will look at their server log for the login made this morning, March 13, 2009 somewhere between 8 and 8:30 am. It probably won't be until Monday before CAS responds. CSA requests that someone 'here' look at the server log for that time as well for clues.

The proxy works for students to login but the database appears not to be recognizing that the student is coming through the proxy URL.

2/18/09 Works just fine now that PT added cas.pdcnet.org to the WAM table for Philosophy Online. gb
2/18/09 A note has been placed in the adi and one should be added to the skyline record. gb

BMJ
The "pass-through" link to BMJ from the EJS interface page doesn't retain the proxy. http://skyline.cudenver.edu/record=b2044134, so off-campus access isn't available. Is problem with publisher or WAM table problem?
Assigned to: gb,ej
Priority: medium
Status: in progress
Troubleshooting notes:
12/22/08 after consulting with gb and dp, we determined that the publisher changed it's address slightly, and in the WAM table, we need to replace the existing BMJ WAM entry #95 (*.bmjjournals.com/) with this new address (*.bmj.com). ej

Status: resolved
Summary of solution: 4/30/08 Wildcarding the wam table entry worked
Troubleshooting notes: 4/28/08 First try wildcarding the ARTstor entry in the WAM forward table , entry #263. Instead of www.artstor.org it should be *.artstor.org.

ResearchNow
http://skyline.cudenver.edu:2082/record=e1000090
(this is an older problem I'm reposting in order to get it in the blog system)
GB discovered that we can get to the full text of the journal articles when we select an article from the BePress journal list on the ResearchNow website, but not when we do a search. When we do a search, we get this error message below. It suggests it may have been caused by our institution's proxy server.
This is an invalid URL. Please reenter the URL, or if you clicked a link in an email message to get here, make sure the link was not split across two lines.
This error may have been caused by your institution's proxy server.
Please use your browser's 'back' button to return to the previous page.
This also sounds like a similar problem to the "Antiquity" problem that was just reported to Ellen M. via a faculty member. See Report a Problem blog: http://aurproblem.blogspot.com/2008/04/antiquity-journal.html
Assigned to: EJ, GB, RB
Status: Unsolved - use workaround
Troubleshooting notes:
7/14/9 Workaround: the database is now listed as "available on campus only" in Skyline and the ADI. Luckily when linking to this database things work as they should.
4/14/9 No resolution, problem is still the same. No access from off campus to this database. gb

Subject: Question
about proxy server with the ResearchNow database
Dear,
I contacted our tech department with your questions (see their answer below), and they were of the opinion that this might well be an issue with your proxy server. The next step would be to find out definitively whether CU Denver uses a proxy server, and whether that is what is causing the problem. If it is, then I'm afraid your tech support will have to fix this via your proxy server. If it
is something different, please let me know and we will do our best to fix the problem as soon as possible.
Thanks you for your patience!

Subject: Re:
[Ticket#10119571] Question about proxy server with the ResearchNow database
,
This issue is almost impossible to troubleshoot. The proxy server redirects the URL of a website to its own server. For instance, our system recognizes the context "http://www.bepress.com,/"
which is changed to "http://www.bepress.com.ezproxy1.lib.asu.edu/" by the proxy server at ASU, and thus the error. For example, when a user attempts to access the URL to create a free account, the server is redirected in such a way that it is no longer recognized.
For example: http://www.bepress.com/cgi/useradd.cgi?context=http://www.bepress.com
is changed to: http://www.bepress.com.ezproxy1.lib.asu.edu/cgi/useradd.cgi?context=http://www.bepress.com.ezproxy1.lib.asu.edu
And thus an error occurs.
As a general rule, this is a problem that can only be fixed in the long-term by the technical support of the institution in question. The user should contact them about this problem, because there is no long-term solution that we can provide.
I know this is a little confusing so please feel free to contact me with any questions. Thanks!
Best,

Antiquity (journal)
Excerpt from the faculty member's email reporting the problem:
"I pulled up this article from Skyline via Ebsco EJS":
HTML AbstractAntiquity Vol 2:5, 1928 pp 18-25 - T. Zammit - Prehistoric Cart-tracks in MaltaAntiquity Journal...Vol 2:5, 1928 pp 18-25 - T. Zammit - Prehistoric Cart-tracks in Malta Antiquity Journal Site Map Terms & Conditions Home Contact ... HTML Abstract (free)Go to the abstract to access the Full Text PDF file.
I got as far as its html page, but when I clicked on the link for the .pdf version, it gave me the message saying I have to log in. But I had already done that, so I'm suspecting that we aren't getting access somehow.
Just to consider other possibilities... it also said that perhaps my IP address wasn't registered and that I need to give you the IP test info and that you need to submit it via an application form. Unfortunately, when I clicked the link, it didn't show me any form. I did get the test info though.

Resolution: This is one of those EJS journals that needs to have it's url in the wam table. PT would you add this url to the wam? antiquity.ac.uk Thanks.
Status: resolved
Troubleshooting notes: 4/17/08 GB & PT input a different variation on the WAM entry, and it worked. We now get full text access when we use the "search" box. EJ
Adding the url in the WAM did not help this problem. The problem is that the proxy wrapper doesn't carry over to the article urls when one does a Search from the search box on the Antiquity page. You can get ft of the articles when you choose them from the TofC, but not when you do a search. Choose any article from the TofC, and then search for it from the search box to see the problem.
