Problem: Issues with proxy wrapper in ResearchNow database
http://skyline.cudenver.edu:2082/record=e1000090
(this is an older problem I'm reposting in order to get it in the blog system)
GB discovered that we can get to the full text of the journal articles when we select an article from the BePress journal list on the ResearchNow website, but not when we do a search. When we do a search, we get this error message below. It suggests it may have been caused by our institution's proxy server.

This is an invalid URL. Please reenter the URL, or if you clicked a link in an email message to get here, make sure the link was not split across two lines.
This error may have been caused by your institution's proxy server.

This also sounds like a similar problem to the "Antiquity" problem that was just reported to Ellen M. via a faculty member. See Report a Problem blog: http://aurproblem.blogspot.com/2008/04/antiquity-journal.html

Assigned to: EJ, GB, RB

Status: Unsolved - use workaround

Troubleshooting notes:

7/14/9 Workaround: the database is now listed as "available on campus only" in Skyline and the ADI. Luckily when linking to this database things work as they should.

4/14/9 No resolution, problem is still the same. No access from off campus to this database. gb

Subject: Question
about proxy server with the ResearchNow database
Dear,
I contacted our tech department with your questions (see their answer below), and they were of the opinion that this might well be an issue with your proxy server. The next step would be to find out definitively whether CU Denver uses a proxy server, and whether that is what is causing the problem. If it is, then I'm afraid your tech support will have to fix this via your proxy server. If it
is something different, please let me know and we will do our best to fix the problem as soon as possible.
Thanks you for your patience!

Subject: Re:
[Ticket#10119571] Question about proxy server with the ResearchNow database
,
This issue is almost impossible to troubleshoot. The proxy server redirects the URL of a website to its own server. For instance, our system recognizes the context "
http://www.bepress.com,/"
which is changed to "
http://www.bepress.com.ezproxy1.lib.asu.edu/" by the proxy server at ASU, and thus the error. For example, when a user attempts to access the URL to create a free account, the server is redirected in such a way that it is no longer recognized.
For example:
http://www.bepress.com/cgi/useradd.cgi?context=http://www.bepress.com
is changed to:
http://www.bepress.com.ezproxy1.lib.asu.edu/cgi/useradd.cgi?context=http://www.bepress.com.ezproxy1.lib.asu.edu

And thus an error occurs.
As a general rule, this is a problem that can only be fixed in the long-term by the technical support of the institution in question. The user should contact them about this problem, because there is no long-term solution that we can provide.

I know this is a little confusing so please feel free to contact me with any questions. Thanks!
Best,

  1. Was a III ticket ever opened on this? It still is a problem. Basically there is no access from off campus to this database through the interface.

However, the linking to the BE Press journals works from off campus, see Global Jurist and the Journal of Drug Policy Analysis. Perhaps we should remove this from the adi and skyline (http://skyline.cudenver.edu/record=b2154532) as a database and just use it to provide full text through GRlinker if all these journals are indexed in other databases.
