Problem: Access dates on the Ebsco EJS interface page are wrong http://skyline.cudenver.edu/record=b1523356~S0 . We cancelled with Ebsco in 2010 because we have it on the LWW Total Access Collection. Ebsco EJS page says we have 1987-date, which is not correct. We have access from 2004-date from both the LWW link and the EJS link. Because we cancelled, I'm not sure what dates we still have through Ebsco EJS. Can you find out, and have them fix the 1987-date range? Thanks EJ

Taylor & Francis Social Science and Humanities Library. T&F gave SerSol the wrong date coverage (1980-2004; coverage should be 1997-2004) Changed the dates in SerSol; other dates are also wrong, so we need to go through and fix those. ej

E-Learning

Despite what our bib record link indicates, it appears that material from 2008 & newer is not available. Access to the full text file generates this message:

2/23/10 This journal changed its name from E-Learning to E-Learning and Digital Content http://www.wwwords.co.uk/elea/content/maincontents.asp
in 2010. It’s an open access journal with an 18 month embargo.

For now, I manually changed the link on the record for E-Learning to “View full text from AERA SIG Communication of Research: 2000 to 18 months ago”.

After the next March load, there will be a new record for E-Learning and Digital Content, with the correct embargo dates. I reported this all to Serials Solutions, and they will make the permanent appropriate changes in the record(s). ej

1/13/09 Auraria has only one year of access to this title on the Ingenta.com platform (not 1948-present), so in Serials Solutions, I changed the date holdings to 2005 only, and removed the EJS link because there is no content on the EJS platform. We have stable access in BioOne from 2000-present. Holdings will show up correctly after Feb coverage load (mid Feb). EJ

Open access journal not available

Problem: A faculty member called looking for an article in the Feb. 2008 issue of the journal, "Bonekey." Our record, b2044164, says it is available from DOAJ, but the website requires a subscription or username & password even from on campus.

12/20/08 After you select the full text link for an article, a confusing page comes up that implies you need a subscription to access. However, if you click on "SIGN UP subscribe to this journal", you can register and then you have free access to the full text. It didn't work immediately, but when I tried two days later, I was able to get the full text. ej

12/18/08 - Confirmed for off campus as well.

Operations Research

Problem: Ebsco, GRLinker and Gale all say we have fulltext access to current issues of Operations Research (http://132.194.32.30/record=b2055635) when we only seem to have through 2003 through Jstor.

Troubleshooting notes:
12/01/08 There is a 2 year full text embargo on all the Gale & Ebsco databases for this title, with the exception of Gale's Business & Co Resource Ctr which has a 1 year embargo. SerSol calculates the ending dates on titles with embargoes, and the only holdings that is incorrect is for General OneFile. It has a 2 year embargo also, and should have the same ending date (Oct 22, 2006) as the others. With the next coverage load, the ending dates on all of these holdings should change to something like Nov 22, 2006. I'll doublecheck after the December coverage load & if General OneFile is still wrong, I'll contact Serials Solutions. EJ
12/01/08 - A professor was looking for this, pointed them to ILL for access now and to TB for more access in the future.

Haworth - Wrong Coverage Dates

Problem:
Our access to Haworth may be working, but do you think we should do anything about the coverage dates? Our coverage dates for our Haworth titles are inaccurate. I think Denise mentioned this in an earlier blog posting too. I remember being told that when Haworth switches over to Taylor & Francis around the end of the year that T&F will apply their "rules" to coverage dates (meaning we should get 1997 - ). Should we just leave the screwy dates as is and hope they will be more accurate when they become T&F? Or do you think we should put in some kind of advisory until then? Here are a couple of examples of screwy coverage dates for Haworth titles:

Haworth Titles

Problem:
KH reported a few problems to me last week. I noticed a couple of them were Haworth titles. These are EJS titles too:

I'm concerned that more of our Haworth titles don't have access. I've contacted Ebsco & Mozhdeh about this. We have about 60 Haworth titles. They will be part of Taylor & Francis and moving to http://www.informaworld.com/ starting in 2009. I will be cancelling these with Ebsco & we should be getting them direct with T&F.

Laser Physics Letters

Problem: 5/6/8 GB Laser Physics Letters, http://132.194.32.30/record=b2053448, (from Wiley Interscience) shows full text access to a pdf for current articles but when you try to link it asks for a login and password to see the article, even on campus. Unlike SpringerLink, I can see articles from other Wiley journals.

5/6/08 EJ customized coverage dates in SerSol (01/01/1998 - 12/12/2004. Lando cancelled our ECO subs in 2004, probably because we get it through so many other sources, including Wiley Interscience. We have perpetual access via ECO to 1998-2004.

Troubleshooting notes:

Problem: 4/30/08 WAT reported a problem with "garbled" holdings statements on these two FASJ--International journal of obesity http://skyline.cudenver.edu/record=b2082032, and International Journal of Impotence research http://skyline.cudenver.edu/record=b2050546.

The holdings should read: from 1997 to 5 calendar years ago
Since the user could not interpret the holdings, they were disappointed that they couldn't get full text access.

5/5/08 It's not the MARC. It's III. This issue came up at a IUG session. The ERM is expecting a date with dd/mm/yy format. It cannot handle text like "5 calendar years ago." I think we should call serials solutions to discuss the best way to handle these types of issues -- enter custom coverage load or ask them to change the way they enter this information. DP
4/30/08 even though I can't download the complete Ser Sol excel spreadsheet (report.csv), I was able to download enough of it so I could look at these two records. In the start date -- end date columns, the dates are correct: 1997 5 calendar years ago translating to "from 1997 to 5 calendar years ago". It looks like a problem with the MARC holdings fields (Lib. has) handling this rather unconventional holdings statement. I need to brush up on my MARC holdings knowledge. I'll take a look at the MARC documentation at http://www.loc.gov/marc/holdings/ EJ

American Journal of Family Therapy

Problem: 4/21/08 This journal's record in skyline (http://skyline.cudenver.edu/record=b2042619) indicates full text access via Taylor and Francis from 1979, and via EJS from 1973. But it is not actually accessible. The patron was directed to microfiche for a 1980 article.

Coverage dates for this T&F journal for the years the Library subscribed to it through Ebsco EJS, have now been changed (1999-2007) on the Ebsco EJS journal list in SerSol. Beginning in 2007/08 we have access through a CU-system/GWLA consortial arrangment, with coverage from 1997-date. EJ
